Leadership Fairfax (LFx) is seeking a dynamic team player who is committed to our mission of developing and connecting community leaders to join our small but dedicated staff. The Director of Advancement will help drive the growth of the organization by developing partnerships and opportunities for financial investments. The ideal candidate will have existing relationships in Fairfax County.

Position Description: The Director of Advancement will report directly to the President & CEO
Position Description:    The Director of Advancement is a new and critical position in Leadership Fairfax as the organization moves forward with new initiatives as part of its recently adopted strategic plan.  The Director will be responsible for creating and managing systems to support the organization’s growth now and into the future. The Director will work with organizational leadership and staff to drive revenue and member driven initiatives.

 Duties include:

  • Provide direction and leadership toward the achievement of LFx annual objectives and budget while working with other team members and volunteers
  • Drive new income opportunities by engaging and recruiting LFx sponsors, volunteers and community members and creating new programs or events when appropriate
  • Develop and implement strategic business plans and problem solve ensuring LFx’s achievement of income and member engagement
  • Contribute to building a dynamic office culture that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse team of employees and volunteers
  • Developing new, and cultivating existing, partners
  • Manage class recruitment activities
  • Drive membership growth
  • All other duties as assigned
 Job Skills Required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy
  • Highly organized and flexible
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  •  Must be self-directed and able to complete projects with limited supervision
  • Working knowledge of email, scheduling, spreadsheets, databases and presentation software
  • Ability to develop budgets and financial reports
  • Work effectively with volunteers

  • Leadership: Proven ability to provide vision and inspiration to team members, develops workable plans, set expectations, monitor delegated activities and provide recognition for results
  • Communication Skills: Clearly and persuasively communicates, including public speaking; listen and seek clarifications; participate in meetings; write clearly and informatively
  • Analytical Skills: Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Gather and analyze information skillfully; solicit feedback and use reason when dealing with emotional topics; develop systems for managing membership and recruitment efforts
  • Initiative: Measure self against a standard of excellence. Undertake self-development activities and learn new skills; seek increased responsibilities and ask for and offer help when needed
  • Integrity: Is self-directed and works well in a high energy environment; treat others with respect and consideration; accept responsibility for one’s own actions. Understand business implications of decisions, align work with strategic goals, complete administrative tasks and develop strategies to achieve organizational goals. Has a high level of emotional intelligence
  • Flexibility: Able to multitask in a changing work environment. Lead challenging demands and unexpected events. Willing to change approach to best fit the situation
  • Outcome driven: Detail oriented with a focus on agreed upon outcomes

 Job Requirements

  • Minimum of five years in a nonprofit organization
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage volunteers to achieve agreed upon goals
  • Experience managing people and projects
  • In-depth knowledge of Fairfax County
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Special events and partner/sponsor cultivation experience
