Seeking a Leader of Leaders

Northern Virginia’s premier leadership organization is launching a search for its next Chief Executive Officer. Leadership Fairfax’s next Chief Executive will be a dynamic leader with strong ties to Northern Virginia and Fairfax — communities known for producing strong leaders. The successful candidate must be passionate about these communities with demonstrated success in organizational, financial, and relationship management. Desired Skillset

Leadership

o   Bold, visionary leader committed to the LFI mission and achieving LFI’s strategic plan
o   Education or professional experience equivalent to senior leadership with a bachelor’s degree
o   Experience working with or serving on nonprofit boards

Managerial

o   Record of effective management of day-to-day operations, programs, and finances
o   Proven ability to recruit, develop, and motivate staff, program faculty, and volunteers
o   Experience in curriculum-based programs, training, or education
o   Success in fundraising, event production, business development, and sponsor solicitations

Interpersonal

o   Effective in a variety of formal presentation settings:  one-on-one, small and large groups, with peers, direct reports, and community leaders
o   Outgoing relationship-builder with a record of leveraging relationships to achieve results
o   Experience with strategic networking and donor cultivation

Management & Governance

Responsibilities include management of this 501(c)3 nonprofit organization to ensure continued excellence in the curriculum-based programs, execution of the strategic plan, Board development, and day-to-day operations, which include staff development, financial stewardship, and office management. The CEO will work in partnership with the Board, committee chairs, and volunteers to implement strategic initiatives that further LFI’s mission. The CEO must be adept at bringing a broad spectrum of individuals together to move the organization forward and working with the nominating committee to monitor Board and committee composition to ensure diversity, functional experience, and representation from key stakeholders. The LFI Board is focused primarily on governance, program development, and community engagement.

    Youth Leadership network advocacy manager, posted 3/1/2023

    Reports to: Director of Leadership Programs 

    Hours: Monday – Friday 

    Fridays are virtual workdays for Leadership Fairfax offices. Mondays through Thursdays are in office with flexibility. The ideal candidate is able to travel throughout the county for advocacy visits, outreach events and member check ins.  COVID-19 vaccine required.

    • Salary: $55,000

    • 40 hours weekly (full time) 

    • Flexibility to work some weekend events and evening events as needed 

    • Hybrid work structure – In person and virtual 

    • Position includes office on site, laptop, health insurance, IRA 

    Position Description: 

    The Youth Leadership Network Advocacy Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of Leadership Fairfax’s newest program the Youth Leadership Network, in partnership with Fairfax County. The Youth Leadership Network is a collective of youth council volunteers, mentors and organizations, who work with Leadership Fairfax to build networks, improve knowledge and expand leadership skills through training. The Advocacy Manager will represent the Youth Leadership Network to connect youth and mentors with trainers, opportunities and resources. Collaboration and innovation are key! Work with the Director of Leadership Programs and Communications to: catalogue councils; establish and manage database; develop outreach plans to connect with Fairfax County based youth councils and groups; visit prospect sites and contacts, identify opportunities for new members and travel to prospect and member sites to represent and recruit.  

    Position requires strong relationship management, documentation, tracking and organizational skills, along with the ability to share the positive vision for our community with others and partner with them to get things done. Proficiency in member management software, Microsoft Office and cloud storage platforms is a must. Ability to work both independently and among teams of varying sizes is necessary. 

    Duties: 

    • Manage YLN Member relationships and needs 

    • Call, email and visit prospective network members 

    • Research and identify prospective members and reach out to propsects

    • Develop tracking spreadsheet for prospective members and maintain detailed records of calls, emails and membership progress 

    • Identify member educational needs and work with Director of Programs to find facilitators to meet member needs 

    • Share volunteer opportunities from member organizations with Communications Team to post on social media  

    • Check in every 2 months with member organizations via email and/or phone call 

    • Meet with Director of Programs weekly 

    • Visit prospect sites to advocate for network programming and resources 

    • Work with Communications Team to send a monthly email including upcoming events, resources for members  volunteer opportunities and network updates 

    • Meet monthly with Fairfax County program officer 

    • Schedule meetings with prospective members 

    • Attend Outreach events to advocate on behalf of the youth network and its members 

    • Attend at least one ELI, one LFI and one LLP Class Day annually to share information on the network 

    • Provide special event support for the Northern Virginia Leadership Awards, Commencement, Board of Supervisors Breakfast, 40 Under 40 awards and other events as needed

    • Schedule, organize and book bi-monthly (every other month) virtual network meetings to provide connection and informational sharing opportunities

    • Attend bi-monthly YLN Steering Committee meetings and leverage knowledge of volunteer committee to support planning and organizing efforts

    • Schedule and manage at least 1 Volunteer Work Day annually to include identifying activity, recruiting volunteers, communicating with volunteers, gathering supplies and implementing service day 

    • Collaborate with Director of Programs, Communications Team and Office Administrator to plan annual conference including logistics, speakers and facilitators, structure, outreach and marketing 

    • Other duties as assigned
