Inclusive Leadership Institute (ILI)

The Inclusive Leadership Institute (ILI) is a program for leaders living or working in Fairfax County that seek to deepen their understanding of the historical foundations and the consequences of racism in systems and in the Fairfax County community. ILI adopts a unique and structured dialogue approach, guiding participants through a comprehensive exploration starting from understanding the historical foundations, to current systems.

Over the 8-month program, participants will delve into the entrenched beliefs, practices, and policies that contribute to racial inequities within systems and identify ways to operationalize equity within their respective organizations and the community.

WHY INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE?

  • Provide tools and resources for engaging in and facilitating conversations about racial equity, including an understanding of history and its impact, to empower participants to navigate discussions and grow their ability to advocate for meaningful change.

  • Cultivate a network of leaders committed to advancing equity, leveraging their collective influence and expertise to effect positive change within their organizations and broader communities.

  • Address the lack of representation of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in leadership positions within Fairfax County, working towards more inclusive leadership structures that reflect the diversity of the community.

  • Equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to become effective advocates for equity, fostering better individual leaders who can contribute to building equitable workplaces.

  • Foster a collective commitment among cohort members to advance racial equity, building an alliance of leaders dedicated to driving meaningful change within their organizations and communities.

  • Develop greater empathy towards individuals and communities affected by racial injustices, fostering a heightened sense of compassion and understanding.

  • Understand how other intersectional inequities like gender, disability, and sexual orientation impact overall disparities.

  • Acquire the skills and confidence to initiate and engage in conversations about racism and equity comfortably, creating a more inclusive and open organizational culture where such discussions are normalized and valued.
